Becoming a Christian

The Bible teaches that all are sinners (Romans 3:10, 23) and therefore under the curse of spiritual and eternal death (Romans 5:12).  Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty of our sin (Romans 5:8) and offers eternal salvation as a free gift (Romans 6:23).  To receive this gift, one must believe in Christ and call out to Him asking for salvation (Romans 10:9-13).

There are no additional requirements attached to salvation such as baptism, church membership, giving money to the church or doing good works.  It is simply a free gift offered by God to everyone and must be received by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).

These are the verses listed above:

Romans 3:10  “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

Romans 3:23  “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Romans 5:8  “But God [demonstrated] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:12  “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

Roman 6:23  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 10:9-13

9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

10 “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

11 “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed”

12 “For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.”

13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-9  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
